On the 18th of October we had the pleasure of hosting former Rossmoyne Senior High School student Elise Paskett, who is now a Project Manager at the Water Corporation of Western Australia. Elise gave a very interesting and informative presentation to our class about water conservation and recycling.

We learnt about the many different ways by which water can be saved and recycled and how different parts of the world handle water differently. Processing wastewater so that it becomes drinkable is a hot topic in Western Australia. After a long trial period the Water Corporation has recently been given approval to pump the highly treated wastewater into deep underground aquifers to mix with groundwater supplies. It will be stored there and then be made available for drinking…..in about 30-50 years! Elise even surprised us with how much water is needed to produce a kilogram of beef: about 15,000 litres of water is required! Can you believe that? Overall we had a really enjoyable presentation from Elise and we hope she will be able to share her knowledge and experience with other schools.
